What’s Essential?

Six weeks later, liquor stores are still open.

Churches are still closed.

Lines wrap around the liquor store’s sidewalk, shoppers maybe two feet apart , wait to purchase spirits.

Churches are still closed.

Liquor stores have been classified as essential by the powers and principalities that control this world.

Churches are still closed.

Only God Himself can save me.

I am a published poet and short story writer. I have been published in SNHU's the penmen review. https://penmenreview.com/author/jenny-andrews is the link where you can find my poetry and a short story. Currently, I am writing a collection of short stories, and a collection of poetry. I am trying my hand at writing a novel. Well, not a novel, actually. Make that two novels. My passion is writing. My inspiration is Franz Krafka because he managed to see the absurdity of life. Life is all about perspective and who is telling the story. We all see this life through the lens of our experiences. Literature should inspire us to think, to analyze, and to get lost in unfamiliar worlds in which we learn something new about this human existence. It is my hope that my writing challenges the reader to think, and to see a different perspective, as well as be entertained. My faith in Jesus strengthens me and gives me the courage to survive the twists and turns of this life. My faith influences a lot of my writing in that goodness always triumphs over evil, in that love conquers all. I hope you enjoy reading my blog.

  1. Hi Jenny,

This was also the situation in my country until we protested with the aid of the media till liquor stores were partially closed.

However, this closure even in the partial state lasted for only three weeks.
Now liquor stores and bars are open yet Churches are closed.

With all this happenings Jenny, I have come to realize that we (body) are the church /temple of God which cannot be closed

I have also come to the realization that the churches (buildings) were powerful tools for fellowship and the tranquility of our minds, something I wouldn’t take for granted after this pandemic.

    1. Hi Mercy, I agree with you. I think before the pandemic we didn’t realize just how absolutely necessary our church families were for our emotional health. Just being in fellowship with others and hearing voices singing praises, and voices in prayer made the stresses of this world seem so trivial. I am not sure what direction this world is heading in. Here in the USA rioting has erupted related to police brutality in Minneapolis. As if Covid-19 isn’t enough, cities are in flames. Please pray for us. Thank you.

      1. Thanks so much. Right now, the USA is going through a really horrific time. I wonder if we will ever have peace. I try not to lose faith. God is in control. I have to remind myself of that fact daily. I pray Ghana is doing well and that things get back to normal after this Covid-19 is over. Blessings to you always.
